Castlefield Recruitment are partnering with a highly regarded state-of-the-art Day Surgery Centre, based in Central London, for the recruitment of an Orthopaedic Theatres Lead.

This exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly skilled Orthopaedic Theatres Lead to join a prestigious state-of-the-art Day Surgery Centre. The Surgery Centre includes 3 laminar flow theatres,12 ensuite patient pods and 3 step-up pods.

Job Description

In this role, you will act as a clinical leader and mentor, driving excellence in theatre operations and surgical care. You will be responsible for ensuring the seamless preparation and execution of surgical procedures, as well as maintaining the highest levels of patient safety and care.

Key responsibilities include:

• Expert Clinical Leadership – Serve as a specialist resource for theatre staff, providing guidance and expertise across the surgical centre.
• Team Development & Training – Lead, mentor, and support a team of theatre professionals, ensuring continuous learning and development.
• Theatre Preparation & Management – Work collaboratively with the surgical team to ensure the operating theatre is equipped and prepared for each procedure, including assembling and checking equipment, instruments, and supplies.
• Surgical Assistance – Perform scrub and assisting duties in line with hospital policies, maintaining best practice and quality assurance.
• Patient-Centred Care – Promote a patient-focused approach, ensuring safe and effective positioning, intraoperative monitoring, and post-procedure care.
• Equipment & Resource Management – Oversee the availability, functionality, and sterility of surgical instruments and supplies, ensuring cost-effective utilisation.
• Collaboration & Communication – Liaise effectively with surgeons, healthcare professionals, and external representatives to enhance service delivery.
• Compliance & Documentation – Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
• Operational Efficiency – Assist the Theatre Coordinator and Theatre Manager in optimising resources, adjusting staffing levels, and improving cost efficiency without compromising care quality.

Qualifications & Person Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must be a highly motivated and skilled professional with a passion for clinical excellence and leadership.

Essential Criteria:

• Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC) with formal scrub training.
• Minimum of 3 years’ post-registration experience within a theatre setting.
• Current BLS certification (Basic Life Support); ILS certification (Intermediate Life Support) is desirable.
• Proven experience in orthopaedic theatres, with a strong understanding of intraoperative services.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make independent clinical decisions.
