Client:

Castlefield Recruitment are currently working in partnership with Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), one of the largest acute Trusts in the UK. They are responsible for running a family of ten hospitals across seven separate sites, providing a wide range of services from comprehensive local general hospital care through to highly specialised regional and national services.

 

Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Capital Accountant to join MFT’s Finance and Procurement Business Unit. The post holder will support the financial management of the capital programme; including its accurate monitoring, in line with Trust plans. They will be responsible for ensuring the Trust capital accounting is compliant with the requirements of the Trust and accounting standards, including the accounting of the Trust’s impairment and depreciation.

 

 

Duties will include;

  • To support the Senior Capital Accountant in the development, monitoring and reporting of the Trust's capital programme including the preparation of monthly capital monitoring information (including cash flow management and forecasting)
  • Financial input into capital business cases in liaison with relevant General/Service Managers, this will mean calculating the capital costs and funding implications of each scheme ensuring that these costs form part of the Trust and charitable financial planning processes. This will include ensuring that expenditure is correctly treated in respect of capital/revenue allocations
  • Assist in the evaluation of capital forecast outturn positions in conjunction with the relevant divisions and capital budget holders
  • Support the completion of the relevant notes to the Trust annual accounts including the completion of capital expenditure figures and commitments for the charitable fund accounts. This must be undertaken in accordance with the relevant Financial Regulatory Standards and NHS guidance
  • Maximise the use of IT systems and reporting and identify and implement changes to improve efficiency and effectiveness
  • Assist in the maintenance of the Fixed Asset and Operating leases registers, ensuring items are accurately recorded with a clear audit trail in place for any required adjustments

 

The successful applicant will have:

  • Excellent understanding of, and be able to interpret, accounting principles and procedures including specific audit requirements
  • Substantial financial management accounting experience in a large organisation
  • Experience of financial monitoring and challenge of capital and revenue expenditure, budgets and forecasts (including leased assets and equipment)
  • Experience of managing a capital programme in a large organisation
  • Experience of influencing and challenging stakeholder groups responsible for significant value budgets
